Street Magic Discussion

It's getting to be that time. What time is that you ask? Well, Bone Gods by Caitlin Kittredge is coming. If you are a fan of the Black London series, please join us this week, next, and even the following week. We're starting off by discussing Street Magic, the first book. Next week, will be Demon Bound, and last but not least, Bone Gods.

Feel free to discuss whatever you want that deals with Street Magic. Are there questions running through your head, that you asked and still have to be answered? What was your favorite scene in the book? Maybe a favorite character? The list of questions could go on. So sit back, relax, and discuss.

To get us started, here a couple questions from me and Melissa.

Robyn

In Street Magic, you see a love, hate relationship between Pete and Jack. How do you think their relationship will differ in Bone Gods compared to this novel?

In the first book, we know Pete has a sister and had a father. Is or was there something special about them too? What power might they have?

Melissa's
The man appears to her when she lets Treadwell "take control" of her body. The shrouded man has a young face and he even sheds a single tear. This man reaches out and gives Pete a small beating birds heart. (pg 304-305) Now, I know she has been dreaming of this man for quite some time, and all the while thinking he was evil. What did you take from this section of the book? What did it symbolize to you in the book, if anything? What was the heart, who was the man?

  1. You have me totally thinking about the man now. I remember hearing it again when I was listening to the book but it didn't faze me at the time.

If I remember and I'll find out soon when I listen to Demon Bound again. But we didn't hear about the man in the next book right? So maybe it will be answered in the next one?

I'm going to have to think what a birds heart, her, and maybe crow mage have in common. Because the dreams started after Jack's death, I believe.

Having major memory loss right now. Maybe should grab the coffee, hehe.

  2. Hey Robyn! I am soooo sorry I am delayed in getting here. I got carried away with the shopping on Friday, and visiting with everyone over the long holiday. We don't normally get this much in. I think with the new house we have been trying to get caught up with stuff for it and visiting before we get caught up and not get to do anything while moving.

But I am here for a short post. :)

I need to go back and reread the section again. I think this is one of my favorite sections, yet I'm not sure what to think about it.

The man has me a little confused. He is thought to be evil. But I wonder if he isn't a connection to her powers. He is giving her her abilities openly. It seems birds have a great power here in these books.

I don't remember hearing about this man again. I wonder if he works with the guardian of Pete's. And to shead a tear for her. I think because she has lost a piece of herself, yet gained so much more.

  3. One other favorite section for me is when Pete and Jack go into the black. I love these visits. :) It seems so neat to me. I liked the first visit though. :)

  4. I was thinking about it some more. I think the man will make an appearance again. When? I'm not sure. I could see him being evil though but also good. I think Pete has a long road ahead of her. She'll want to use them for good but there will be others trying to take advantage of her. Without Jack to protect her, the supernatural will be definitely trying to get to her. She is a beginner in many ways still.

  5. One thing I loved about this book was the relationship. Both tried to deny how they felt about the other but you could see their connection.

  6. I am looking forward to Pete's growth as a character and in her powers.

I hope this man does make an appearance, or even if her guardian might explain this. But I really wonder if the heart is a way of handing her, her powers but she still has to open up to them.

  7. I was really interested to see the two use their powers together. I was worried that something wasn't going to go right. With the way they react to each others abilities. Really a strange and great thing! It could so easily go bad.

  8. The relationship is too cool. I thought Jack dated Pete's sister - that being how they meet. I love how they are so brutally honest with each other. I think that is part in what keeps bringing me back to the books. No easy couchiony fluff around them. Just the cruel truth. And I love it.

  9. If I remember Jack and her sister did date but than Jack and Pete did too.

With how they are with each other, I can't wait to see how they are in Bone Gods. Pete confronting Jack after he left her again? That will be interesting.
