Hourglass

Hourglass is the third in the Evernight series. by Claudia Gray. I thought this book would never come. I loved the first two and having to wait for this one for a long time was torture. After reading this one, I can't believe we have to wait until 2011 for Afterlife. Must be strong.

This one picks up from the last one. Bianca and Lucas are on the run after what happened in the last book. Along the way, Bianca finds out the truth of what she will become if she doesn't turn vampire. I really can't say too much more because that would ruin the plot. All I can say is that I'm curious to know how Gray will wrap everything up. I'm just hoping for a happy ending, lol.

I was happy to see Balthazar. I love his character. I still love him more than Lucas, lol. Too bad he has Charity for a sister. Also was happy to see Vic in this one.

If you haven't read the series. Go to your local bookstore, ereader, or library and check out the series.

Goodreads summary
Bestselling author Claudia Gray’s Evernight series continues. In Hourglass, Bianca and Lucas have found a way to be together. But it means lying to the people who care about them the most.

After escaping from Evernight Academy, the vampire boarding school, Bianca and Lucas seek refuge with Black Cross, the elite group of vampire hunters led by Lucas’s stepfather. When Bianca’s close friend—the vampire Balthazar—is captured by Black Cross, Bianca knows she has to do whatever it takes to save him. But at what cost?

Hourglass, the third book in this gripping vampire series by the author of the New York Times bestseller Stargazer, has all the romance, suspense, and page-turning drama that have made Claudia Gray’s books runaway successes.

Eternal Kiss of Darkness

The cover for Jeaniene Frost's Eternal Kiss of Darkness came out and I'm loving it. Thoughts? I'm counting down the days for this book release.

Goodreads Summary
An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness…and now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.

Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she’s only imagined in her worst nightmares.

At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master Vampire who thought he’d seen it all. Then Kira appears—this fearless, beautiful…human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life, yet sending her away is unthinkable.

But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose between the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction.

I'm a huge, huge fan of her WVMP series. And this one has been on my wishlist for awhile now.
Title: Eyes of Crow
Series: Aspect of Crow
Author: Jeri Smith-Ready

Goodreads Summary
For Rhia was bound to the Spirit of Crow, gifted with the foresight of Death's approach and doomed to the isolation of one feared and set apart.

There must always be one whose magic can ease the passage of the people of Asermos to the Other Side. But to be the guide her people require, to truly know the depth of her gift--her curse--Rhia must surrender herself to the wisdom of the Great Forest…and drink deeply of Death itself. And though two powerful men stand ready to aid her, even to love her, the Aspect of Crow demands unthinkable sacrifices from one who walks its path.
************************************************************************************
I love the TV show and will admit I have never read the series. I'm going to have to change that. Title: Blood Prince
Series: Victoria Nelson
Author: Tanya Huff
Goodreads Summary
It began with blood and death amid the streets of late-night Toronto. Vicki Nelson, formerly of Toronto's homicide detail, now a private investigator, witnessed the first attack by the force of dark magic that would soon wreak its reign of terror on the unsuspecting city. And as death followed unspeakable death, Vicki became more and more deeply enmeshed in an investigation which would see her renewing her stormy relationship with her former police partner, Mike Celluci, even as she teamed up with writer Henry Fitzroy, in a desperate attempt to track down the source of the seemingly unstoppable attacks. For Fitzroy, the illegitimate son of Henry VIII, had knowledge of realms beyond the mortal acquired over the centuries during which he'd mastered his own insatiable needs - the life-from-death cravings of a vampire.

Henry Fitzroy had long since learned to survive without killing, learned the skills needed to blend in with the human race. But unless he, Vicki, and Mike could find the key to conquering the magic-raised menace stalking the streets of Toronto, Fitzroy's true identity might soon be exposed and his life might prove forfeit to the uncontrollable fears of humankind. And without Henry Fitzroy, mere mortals like Vicki and Mike would not long survive against the ancient force of chaos that had been loosed on their world.

In this scene Bianca goes off and searches for a computer to let her parents know she is safe and not to worry about where she is.

"Once I was inside, I signed into my e-mail account. The dozens of boldface new messages at the top of the screen startled me, and the names of the senders seemed to lash me, one by one: Dad. Mom. Vampirates

At first when I saw this, I thought ooh another vampire series. Than I found out it was a children series. It looks like a series I would have loved reading when I was younger. Where was it back in the day? It would have fit perfectly with my Christopher Pike and R.L Stine collection. I'm definitely curious about this series. Anyone ever read it?

Dead After Dark

Curled up in bed last night to finish the anthology, Dead After Dark and loved it. Would have posted my thoughts last night but I was comfortable and didn't want to move or maybe it was just laziness, lol.

This anthology has four authors; Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.R. Ward, Susan Squires, and Dianna Love. I usually don't mind reading the short stories that involve series because it makes me want to read the series more. This one had some of Kenyon's Dark Hunter characters. Also a character from Squire's companion series can be found in this one.
Shadow of the Moon
This one follows Fury, the brother to Vane (Dark Hunters #6) and Angelia. Fury and Angelia have a past with each other. Years later, Angelia thinks she is helping Fury by saving him but before she knows it, Fury has his own plan.
The Story of Son
Claire is a lawyer thinking she is going to talk to one of her clients. Nothing unusual right? Well this client might just have other plans for her. Either way, her life will be changed forever.
Beyond the Night
Drew purchases a house ignoring the rumors of a ghost that haunts the house and takes the blood of its victim. All he wants to do is see his past love and get revenge on a man. He might just need the ghost to save his life.
Midnight Kiss Goodbye
After nine years, Trey and Sasha are reunited. Despite their past they work together to stop a warlord that is after Sasha. Trey learns something about Sasha while she learns something about him. Could this bring them closer together?

2. The Story of Son by J.R. Ward
Claire Stroughton is a beautiful lawyer who would rather spend the night with a legal brief than the man of her dreams. Then a routine client meeting turns dangerous—and deeply sensual—when she is held captive by a gorgeous man with an unworldly hunger…

3. Beyond the Night by Susan Squires
(Companion Series, #7)

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday, what are you reading is a weekly even hosted by Shelia. For more information, click here.

I've read Northanger Abbey so many times and always told myself I would read the book we hear so much about. Finally years later, I'm doing it. It's taking me awhile but the book is really good. I really like the characters Emily and Valencourt.

I always love a good anthology. This one has a story that deals with a few Dark Hunter characters. Wasn't sure I should read it since I haven't started the series yet but I did. If that story is as good as the series, can't wait to start The Dark Hunters.

This one is the third in the Evernight series. Loved the first two. I'm assuming we'll see Balthazar. At least I hope so. I still like him better than Lucas. Who knows, maybe my opinion will change.

This one we are starting for #Tuesbooktalk on Twitter. Looks like a good one. Going to start it as soon as I'm done with the blog.

In this scene, Emily the main character, her father (St. Aubert) and a friend (Valencourt) are having breakfast.

Bloodfever

Bloodfever is the second book in the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. I really wish I had Faefever already. Although I'm thinking maybe I should have waited to read the Fever series towards the end of the year. You really gotta love cliffhangers, lol. If you want to read my thoughts on Darkfever, the first book, click here.

The search for the Sinsar Dubh continues. Have Barrons and Mac gotten closer to finding it? What about Mac? Is she closer to finding out who she really is? Or better yet. What about Barrons? Are we closer to finding out about him?

I'm still not sure we can trust V'lane, heck can we even trust Barrons? This book dealt with a lot of who she should trust or not trust. Honestly with the new characters we met, I'm not sure on them either. I guess time will tell.

I'm definitely curious to know more about Christian Mackeltar.

You know this series kind of reminds me of the show LOST. You want answers but you don't get them. You keep adding more questions as the book goes along.

Here is my thought on what Barrons could be. I made sure to highlight it so those who haven't read it, can ignore it. Please do not highlight if you haven't read it!!!!

Could Barrons be the Unseelie King? We know he's not a sidhe-seer but he can see Fae. Although maybe he does eat the unseelie. So maybe I'm wrong :). There is also the issue that Mac hasn't felt Fae with him. So I guess it's just a theory.

TAKEN FROM GOODREADS
I used to think my sister and I were just two nice southern girls who'd get
married in a few years and settle down to a quiet life. Then I discovered
that Alina and I descend, not from good wholesome southern stock, but from an
ancient Celtic bloodline of powerful sidhe-seers, people who can see the Fae.
Not only can I see the terrifying otherworldly race, but I can sense the
sacred Fae relics that hold the deadliest of their magic.

When my sister was found dead in a trash-filled alley in Dublin, I came over
to get answers. Now all I want is revenge. And after everything I've learned
about myself, I know I have the power to get it....

MacKayla Lane's ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed
on Ireland's shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and
ancient secrets.

In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh-a million-year-old
book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both
the worlds of the Fae and of Man. Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by
mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between
two deadly and irresistible men: V'lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn
sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable
Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious.

For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans.
Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that
stands between them....

Stray

So the latest series for me to start is the Shifter series by Rachel Vincent. If the whole series is as good as the first book, Stray. I am so going to love this series.

We get to meet Faythe Sanders, who isn't your typical human grad student. She's a werecat which is a shape shifter. She is taken out of her college life and forced to go back home to her family and the Pride. Tabbies, which are women werecats are being taken by strays. Just in case you are wondering, the men are tomcats. The stray is a shape shifter who doesn't belong to a Pride. They live on their own. Despite the danger, Faythe wants out and wants to live her own life but her father who is the alpha of their territory refuses. One day she is to marry the man who will become the Alpha of their territory. At the same time though her father raised her to be strong and maybe take charge of the Pride. Danger manages to find Faythe and she has to save herself and the other tabbies before it's too late.

There is also her ex boyfriend Marc who clearly still has feelings for her but Faythe fights those feelings throughout the book. I have to say though, I really like Jace. I want him and Faythe together.

Definitely curious to see what will happen with Faythe's brother, Ryan. Also Andrew, her human boyfriend? I have a feeling something is up with him.

Fallen

Angels seem to be popular right now so I'm heading in that direction. Never fear, vampires will always be my favorite :).

I really didn't see it but Fallen by Lauren Kate doesn't remind me of Twilight. Did it for you? Sure there are two boys in the book that could end up with the main character but I don't see it.
Luce Price comes to Sword & Cross boarding school after a tragic event in her life. She first meets her first friend, Arriane but it's Penn who she feels the closes to. There is also Daniel. She feels drawn to Daniel. She can't stop thinking about him and yet the first day they meet? He has an attitude towards her. She also gets to know Cam who shows a huge interest in her. He always seems to be around. The question is though, should Luce even think about a guy like Cam? Or better yet, maybe Luce should also stay away from Daniel. Besides the two new boys in her life, Luce is discovering more about herself that might just get her killed.

I'm definitely curious to see where the series goes. You are definitely left with some unanswered questions. I definitely would like to know more about Cam. What's his deal? Also Roland? I have a theory about him so I hope we see more of him.

To read my theory on Roland, I made sure to hide the spoiler. Highlight over if you want to read it. It is a spoiler. I did warn you :)

So if you look on page 187, they are talking about a wicked angel who battled God in class. Arriane says, Roland under her breathe. Miss Sophia calls him Satan. So does this mean Lucifer is actually Roland?? Unless I missed something, that was the only time it's mentioned and Roland disappears.

This will be a series. The second book, Torment comes out, September 2010.

Beneath the Skin

I finished another series, yea! Now a billion more to go :). I was sad to be done with it but I finished Beneath the Skin by Adrian Phoenix. I wish I knew when the fourth book comes out, Etched in Bone because I definitely want to continue reading the series. This book is part of the The Maker's Song series. You can find my thoughts for book one, here and book two, here.

I have to say I'm glad I got to read this one close to book two because if I had to wait between the two, I probably would have gone nuts. We were left off with Dante, Heather, Annie, and Von on the run after the events of book two. A majority of book three is the road trip back to New Orleans. Along the way we get a glimpse of other characters who want revenge on Dante, answers, and to find the maker. The relationship between Dante and Heather deepens in this one and I can't wait to see their relationship go even deeper in the next book or hopefully books.

There is definitely no way Phoenix can tie up the series in one book and personally I'm hoping we get a few more. I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of Gabriel and Mauvais.

I know Annie is Heather's sister but there were times I just wanted to slap her. I could never do that to my sister knowing how much it would hurt her. Von, loved him even more by the end of the book. The way he protects Dante and now, Heather, love him! If you haven't read the series, put it on your TBR list.

Partners In Crime

I finished Partners in Crime today which I read for #tuesbooktalk which can be found on twitter every Tuesday at 11. We finished this book this week but in two weeks we will be starting The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. I'll let you know for sure when we are starting the discussion and how many chapters we'll be doing at a time if you're interested.

Anyways. I've read a few Agatha Christie books but never Partners in Crime so I was definitely looking forward to this one. We get to meet Tommy and Tuppence who work on solving crime and are also husband and wife. This book consists of different short stories so it's not focused on just one case. I kinda liked that we had different cases going on.

I think what I loved most about this book was, I didn't see it being a certain person as the one in trouble for whatever they did. But than again, I'm also one of those people who can have stuff easily go over their heads, lol.

I'm not really sure which story to focus on since I loved them all. All I can really say is, read the book. You'll love it if you're into mysteries, Christie, or even the classics.

Friday Night Bites

First I would like to thank Michelle for the awesome banner she did for me. Thank you, thank you :)....Love her blog, check it out here.

*********************
Even though my eyes were tired, I wanted to finish Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill. Part of the problem was, it was too good.

This is the second book in the Chicagoland Vampire series. The first one was Some Girls Bite. You can see my thoughts here. It picks up where Merit is moving into the Cadogan House. The house reminded me of a dorm except when I was living in one, we didn't have a Master Vampire by the name of Ethan. Although, I wouldn't have minded, lol.
She is still the sentinel of the house which means she gets to work side by side with Ethan. As she works with him on finding out who the traitor might be and what's causing trouble for them, Ethan gets in the way of her relationship with friends and a potential relationship with another master. At the same time she is also dealing with her family thanks to Ethan, who wants her to reconnect with her father. Oh and to top that off she has to deal with the threat of Celina who wants her revenge.

In this book, we get to read more about the shifters world. By the looks of it, we'll see more in the third book when we get to see more of Gabriel Keene, an alpha for the shifters.

When I started this book I was definitely liking her with Morgan but as the second book goes on, you can see the connection between Ethan and Merit. I have to say though, I still like her with Morgan. Keeping my fingers crossed for future books :).
The moment I finished the book, I have to admit I went right to Neill's website to see if there was a preview for the third book especially after the last page of book two, I thought ooh maybe the first chapter is up. Hey it does happen from time to time. Nope, it's chapter two. Which I did read of course. Either way, can't wait.

TAKEN FROM GOODREADS
The story of a young heiress's initiation into the dark society of the Chicagoland Vampires continues...

Ten months after vampires revealed their existence to the mortals of Chicago, they're enjoying a celebrity status usually reserved for the Hollywood elite. But should people learn about the Raves-mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle-the citizens will start sharpening their stakes.

So now it's up to the new vampire Merit to reconnect with her upper class family and act as liaison between humans and bloodsuckers, and keep the more unsavory aspects of the vampire lifestyle out of the media. But someone doesn't want peace between them-someone with an ancient grudge

"Welcome to Cadogan House, I thought, and with some burst of strength, I willed her back down, lifted my chin and stared back at him. His eyes were wide crystal pools of green."

Broken

Broken by Shiloh Walker is the follow up to Fragile. If you didn't check it out, the post for Fragile is here.

This one focuses on Luke Rafferty's twin brother Quinn. Quinn is working as a bounty hunter for a detective agency. He's living in the basement of a really nice older lady, Theresa ,who he helped out and she gave him a place to stay in return. Sara Davis moves in to an apartment at Theresa's. Sara is a waitress who was offered a new safer place to live. But is it really safe? She knows she can't get close to Quinn because she is on the run and Quinn doesn't know if he can trust again. Just as Quinn and Sara start to get closer, Quinn gets called on a case, the case that could change their lives forever.

Loved this book. I loved Luke in Fragile but I have to say, I loved Quinn a little more. I was hooked from the beginning and could not put it down. Naturally I kept getting interrupted but I forgave my friends and family.

Sara was a very likable character. You had to feel bad for her. I loved how we really don't know her character's true story until the end. It kept you guessing. All I will say is, I didn't see that coming.

Definitely pick this book up, you'll love it.

TAKEN FROM GOODREADS
Shattered

Quinn Rafferty is working as a bounty hunter and bail bondsman in St. Louis when a new neighbor catches his eye. He’s tempted by her beauty—but he knows from experience that anyone desperate enough to live in his building is damaged goods. Besides, he has his own soul to mend before he can worry about anyone else.

Desperate

Sarah McElya is on the run, but not for the usual reasons a woman goes on the lam. She’s not an abused wife, and she’s not a criminal. But she does have a plan for her future. And as much as she finds herself attracted to her gruff, tough neighbor, she can’t risk telling him the secrets she’s hiding. There’s just too much at stake.

Driven to desire…

But Quinn must get closer to Sarah when she turns out to be the target of his new missing persons case, and he discovers that there is something more complex and dangerous to her than he thought. Now, both Quinn and Sara will have to expose their true feelings—as well as their fragile hearts—if they hope their love will survive…

Fragile

With the upcoming release of Broken and after reading the snippets I decided to check out Fragile, which is the first book.

This story takes place in Kentucky and we have Luke Rafferty and Devon Manning. They meet through the hospital where Luke is a doctor and Devon is a social worker. Both have an attraction towards the other. Luke runs into her one night and the rest is history. But is all well for the two? Devon has a stalker, Luke becomes overly protected, there is murder, and emotion. Both of them think they have everything figured out and can move on. But can they?

I love how Walker has you on the edge of your seat throughout the book. Just when you think you have it figured out or they move on with their lives, it's not over. Something else has to go wrong. As you're reading it, you have to wonder if you can really trust someone you know.

Overall, I loved this book. I have to say I'm definitely excited for Broken tomorrow. I pre-ordered it from Barnes and Noble so hopefully the UPS guy isn't late tomorrow.

TAKEN FROM GOODREADS:

Battle Scarred
Six years after trading in his combat gear for hospital scrubs, Luke Rafferty still hasn't found what he's been searching for: a normal life. At his job, Luke is faced with things just as heartbreaking as those on the battlefield, none more so than the abused children brought in by a pretty redheaded social worker.

Heartbroken
For Devon Manning, being a social working is a rewarding job, but also a constant reminder of her own troubled youth. Devon takes everything one day at a time--unable to form a relationship with anyone except the children she rescues.

A Desire to Heal...
When Luke meets Devon, he thinks he might have found what he's been looking for, but in order to get the life he wants, Luke has to break through Devon's emotional barriers and make her realize that his healing touch might be just the complication her life needs...
