Cruel Enchantment

First off. Thanks again to Anya Bast for having the contest and giving me a chance to win an ARC of Cruel Enchantment. What do I have to say about it? I loved it!

This is the second one in the series and it picks up from the last. We get to see Aeric from the first book and meet Emmaline for the first time.

Emmaline comes back home. Home to the Fae. In many ways a prison. The Fae are locked inside and Emmaline wants to help by finding another item that could get the Fae one step closer to being free. There is only little problem. She has to go to Aeric, the Blacksmith. The man who can help her open the box. All she has to do is to get him to make a key. What's the big deal you ask? Well the two of them have a history and the two are going to have to work through their anger or fear to work with the other.

This series is great. After reading this one I'm going to want the next book. We get to see Gabriel and Aislinn again which I loved. I liked Aeric and Emmaline but I still probably love Gabriel and Aislinn more. It was great to see Aislinn in her new role as the Shadow Queen. I hope we get to see the two again in Dark Enchantment. Actually I would like to see all four.

If you haven't started the series. Start it! And if you have? You'll love this book.

Eternal Kiss of Darkness

Tonight's book is Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost. Imagine just walking one morning and your life being changed forever. That's about to happen for Kira. She meets Mencheres in a warehouse as she tries to save him but it might just be up to do the rescuing. Before she knows it. She is in the world of vampires. There is definitely no turning back. It might just be up to Mencheres to show Kira the world of the vampire before his enemy finds her.

First off, I was excited to read this one since it's the Night Huntress series. I just wish I loved Kira more. I didn't hate her but I didn't really care for her character as much as Denise. Maybe it's because I knew Denise going into the series from Cat's story. For me there was just something about her character I didn't care for.

I also wanted to see more Ian in this book. I feel like he was left out. Maybe Frost is saving him for another book. Which by the way, I would love. On the bright side? We had Bones. Love him!!! My favorite vampire.

This so made my day. I've been on such a Cat & Bones kick. In the end though, I want it to be spring 2011. :)

Advice time

Hey everyone! I'm just doing a quick post on advice. I am trying to become a writer and I'm trying to get my work out there. I do want to write that novel but in the meantime to get myself out there and build up a portfolio. I would like to get some short stories out there. So my question is. Do you know any good online markets that I can submit to? I have my 2010 Writer's Market book and belong to writersmarket.com but the more, the better. Which ones do you read stories from? Any advice would be great.

Title: The Wedding Gift
Series: N/A
Author: Kathleen McKenna
Goodreads Summary:
Kathleen McKenna's explosive third novel 'The Wedding Gift' excels in so many categories it defies them all. It is a spine-electrifying supernatural tale where a huge Southern States mansion contains one of the most terrifying, violent and indeed psychopathic ghosts to haunt any town. It is also a murder mystery - why did Robina Willets apparently kill all five of her young children, and her husband, before stabbing herself to death? And, if you are in the camp of believing that 'justice .... just is not', then this will have you frothing at the mouth with righteous social fury. Add to that the vision of two exceptionally beautiful girls lying on a landing stage in the middle of a secluded lake, sleeping naked in the sun .... .... and then see if you can find any consecutive ten minutes in this book when you don't at least snicker at the heroine Leeann's sly, caustic, sometimes-knowing sometimes 'too stupid to live' commentary. "Several times in the 'The Wedding Gift' Kathleen McKenna has the narrator bursting out with phrases like 'Oh shoot, hell yeah, he was grinning like an egg suck dog' or words to that affect. Well, that was me she was describing throughout the book, grinning like an egg suck dog. I don't know what one of those might be, but I sure want to be one," Tim Roux, author of 'Missio' and 'The Dance of the Pheasodile'.

Mind Games

Melissa over at My World...in words and pages decided to start an Urban Fantasy Blog Book Club. We only had the two of us and maybe another person but either way I enjoyed it. Melissa and I'll be doing it again. You can help us decide which book to choose. Click here for a previous post.

Anyways :). Our first book was Mind Games. I am so glad we read it. I loved it. I didn't want to put it down when we hit the last page before discussion. Sure I could cheat and keep going but I didn't want to do that.

Justine is a hypochondriac or at least she thinks she is. She meets Packard who says he can help her. She takes him on that offer and her life is changed forever. She gets to learn about the highcaps and other disillusionists who have their own issues. Packard offers her a job that will help her overcome her fears. All she has to do is put the fear in others. That's not so bad right? Justine is definitely going to learn a lesson when it comes to messing around with other peoples fear. She'll also meet someone who she never thought she would like when she found out who he really was.

There are two men in this one who could be so right for her and so wrong. I'm really not sure who I want her to be with yet. For those who have read this book. Tell me I'm not the only one.

The second book in the series Double Cross, comes out in September.

Luck of the Wolf

I decided to try something new. Okay maybe half new. I picked up Luck of the Wolf by Sandra Krinard from Netgalley. What makes it different from many of the wolf stories I’ve read? This one was a historical romance. Sure I’ve read my share of historical romance but never one involving the werewolf.

Aria sets off to find the family she’s never known. She comes to the states with a man who raised her but she is soon by herself in a world she never had experienced. Not before long she gets herself in danger. Cort comes to the rescue. He saves her from men who wouldn’t care about harming her. Cort on the other hand wants to save her. The two set off to see the people who may or may not be her family. Naturally it can’t be a perfect journey. In the end though can the two find their way to each other? There is only one way to find out. Come November. Look for the book. I picked this book. If you love paranormal and historical romance this book is for you.

Always the Baker, Never the Bride

Every once in awhile I like to read a good Christian book. I picked one up from Netgalley and that was Always the Baker, Never the Bride by Sandra D. Bricker.

Emma Rae is a baker. Everyone loves her cooking. She lands a job at the Tanglewood Inn working for Jackson Drake. The two start to get to know each other thanks to their crazy family members. The feelings are there but there are obstacles along the way; the death of his wife or her high school boyfriend. Will they find each other before it's too late?

I love a good romance book but I'm guessing I'm not the only one who needs a break from those hot heavy scenes. Maybe I am? You still see a good romance in this one. I like the way Bricker described certain scenes that you still went, "awww."

There is a message about God but it's not bad. So if you don't mind that. You will like the book. Definitely check it out.
