Devil's Punch Discussion

Hi all! We are now discussing Devil's Punch by Ann Aguirre. Can't wait to get started. Remember even if you have read the whole book, you can always join us. We will have spoilers.

Let's get started.

Melissa's
- We are hinted at Chance not being 100% human! And that the demon who meets them calls him a godling. What do you think Chance is?

- Corine AND Chance are feeling the affects of Shoel. How do you think the outcome will be for them? Will they make it through these changes? How will this affect Chance and his 'godling' side? How much will the demon part of Corine come through?

- If Shoel is affecting Corine and Chance as such, do you think Shannon will have any side affects? Maybe not, as she doesn't have the heritage of Corine and Chance, but with her ability...you never know.

Robyn's
- What do we think of Greydusk? Will he always obey Corine or will he stop one day and if that happens. What do you think Greydusk will do? Let her live or want to kill her? They seem to be okay so far with each other.

- Will we see more of the queen come out? Will Corine be strong enough to not let the queen take over?

- Chance got a little on my nerves again but not as bad as the other books. Do you think Chance and Corine will work things out in the end?

  1. I bet Chance is some type of God or something or his father was. Maybe he's the son of a god and that's what they call godlings?

    1. That's what I was thinking. A son or grandson, to earn the godling name. Just a drop of godly blood running through his veins.

I think of Corine talking about how Chance said there was a spark and he had to get to know her. So, what kind of "god" would be in his ancestry? I'm not sure with the Solomon line in Corine. I keep trying to remember the gods associated around that time that might fit. Or any "god" worshiped with his mothers heritage. Hard to tell!

I do hope we get to find out though. :)

    2. Maybe it has something to do with his mother's side? Although there is his father's side.

    3. Corine keeps mentioning his father, and his mother has been pretty quiet about his dad. But...you could be on to something about it being in his mothers side. She has a touch of magic in her. But I do think there is something about his dad too. :D

    4. I would love to know more about his dad and Corine's as well.

    5. Oh yes! Corines dad! I forgot about him. I wonder who he was too.

    6. Maybe we'll find out soon, or maybe not. :)

  2. You know I kind of miss Jesse and shocked that he is with Shannon. Maybe it's because I liked Jesse and liked him with Corine, haha.

    1. I kind of miss Jesse too, but I liked what Shannon brought to the story with Corine.

I'm very shocked that Jesse is with Shannon too. Only because of the age difference, and he DID not strike me as one to go for such a young girl. He played by the book better than that with being a cop and all.

Yet I'm very okay with him not being with Corine. I've always been a Chance supporter from day one. ;)

    2. I have to admit I was kind of shocked when I read Jesse and Shannon. My thing at first was the age group. Do you even remember how old Jesse is? In his twenties or thirties?

    3. Hmm, I don't remember how old Jesse is. But I do think he is Corine's age. It was mentioned he was ten years older than Shannon though. And I think she is 17 or 18. I thought she was still a minor when she left with Corine, not yet 18. But I could be wrong about that.

    4. That's what I thought, haha. I thought isn't he a little old for her.

  3. When Butch didn't wake up, I was freaking out. I love that dog!!!

    1. LOL! I was worried about Butch too! I love the way he can communicate with Corine, and talking with the tiles. That is awesome!

But he can see there is something dark in Corine. Makes me wonder if there isn't something more to Butch.

Call me a sucker, but I keep waiting to see what Shoel will do to Butch and if he will 'become' something else, or reveal a true identity hidden in a dog form, or if his communication with Corine will increase in this magical hell.

    2. There is definitely something up with Butch. Not sure what, but I bet he has some type of magic in him that will help save Corine.

    3. Maybe I've read too many shifter books, but maybe he's a shifter, HA!

      Delete
    4. LOL! Yes, to many shifter books. :D I don't know about a shifter, but I really do want to know why Butch is so special. I hope there is something there and we learn it in the future. :)

    5. Maybe it will turn out that he is her guardian or something.

      Delete
    6. That would be neat. But a guardian from which side? Sounds like from the good side. But, from her mom's side or the Solomon protectors? lol. So many possibilities. :D

    7. I'm going to say her mom's. I have this feeling that the queen comes from her dad side. Just guessing though.

  4. Hey, sorry! Yesterday was the kids birthday and we ended up going out to dinner with grandparents. :) So, I'll do a little now, and then again tonight when I get home from work.

  5. You know I really like Greydusk! I was surprised. And saying that, I like how Corine sees Shoel as just like human cities. I know she's trying to not relate, so she doesn't feel for the demons, but dang, it's hard. lol

Greydusk, I think will be faithful to Corine. Or at least I hope. I wonder if someone will offer him a better contract when his time is done with Corine. But right now, with the potential of her being the next Queen and ascending, he will stay close to her to serve her as she wishes. She is to powerful and potentially to powerful in Shoel.

    1. I don't mind Greydusk either. I figure if she does have to deal with demons, she'll have to like some, right?

Here is a question though, would Greydusk use Corine? If he knows she'll be queen, does he want to get close for his own purpose. As if he'll need something?

      Delete
    2. I think that is always possible with a demon. Gredusk seems to be a selfless kind of Demon, but that can't be right. He has to do something to cross Corine. Or this would mean the demons are okay too. I keep wondering if he is still working for the woman that brought Corine to town, but makes it seem like he is working for Corine. I don't know, always looking for the double cross. lol

    3. Ooooh I didn't think of that.

  6. The Queen in Corine... I'm afraid this is going to change Corine drastically even after she leaves hell. She is not going to be the same. This Queen is getting to close to the surface to push down.

This is what I'm worried about with Corine and Chance. I do think the Queen will rise closer, and we WILL see her more. She has to make things difficult for Corine. Has too! And I think Corine is going to have to pull on her powers to get out of a bind before this is over.

    1. I have a feeling we'll see a bad Corine sometime. Maybe not right now, but in the future. It might just take Chance to save her.....or Jesse. :) haha

      Delete
    2. lol You and Jesse. ;D I do think this will make the Queen in Corine come closer to the surface, and if she doesn't show now, yes, I agree she will show in the future. :)

    3. Maybe it will be in the last book. I could see it leading up to that. I guess it depends on how many more books there are.

    4. I'm not sure how many books are to be in the Corine Solomon series either. Hmm, might be a big finale. ;D

    5. I hope we get a few more. :)

  7. And we have Chance who is changing as well! He is becoming the protector of the Queens, and Corines. I'm afraid this is going to be the wedge that gets between Corine and Chance. That one thing that keeps them apart and makes her really think she sound have NO ONE around her again.

He is acting so strange. I do hope the "godling" powers in him surface and help pull him out of this rut he is falling into.

    1. What power besides luck do you think he'll have?

      Delete
    2. I don't know! I don't know if he even will have other powers, if luck is just it. Maybe he is a 'godling' because he has the ability to be a god? The luck, if used in the right way, could help many other than just himself. Just a thought.

    3. Hopefully we find out soon. :)

  8. LOL! I know you get annoyed with Chance. But for some reason I love him. And I like that he is trying to be different, for Corine. I actually liked the 'protector' that he is being created into her in Shoel as well, under the spell of the Queens consort.

I thought it was neat to see more of his story with Lily, which explains a lot of what happened with him and Corine the first time around. I'm not saying what happened was right, but the action, reaction thing is visible now.

I really love him, and hope they work out. :D

    1. Haha I know you're Team Chance while I'm Team Jesse. I have a feeling though, I shouldn't be going, woo Team Jesse anymore. Unless Shannon moves on. She is young.

      Delete
    2. LOL! you never know. ;D Shannon is feeling pretty bad now that she remembers in Shoel, about Corine and Jesse being an item. So, Jesse could still be in the picture. Although, and nothing against Jesse, but I hope not. lOL!

      Delete
    3. The question is, when they get out of Shoel. Will Shannon forget again?

      Delete
    4. Ha! I hope not. Maybe this trip made the fog spell wear off faster than in the real world, so she will remember and retain it all. Goodness! I hope so!

      Delete
    5. I wonder what she'll do when she remembers and Jesse doesn't.

  9. Thought I would get another thought in before I start reading the next part tonight. :)

Do you think Shannon will remember her in the end? It seemed like she knew Corine when Corine went through Shannon. It almost sounded like she remembered Corine.

    1. Yeah, I do. I forget what vision it was that Corine had, but she felt that Shannon remembered her and felt bad about Jesse. I do think Shannon will remember, it seems the magic of Shoel has crossed out the fog Corine placed on her.

I'm glad, because I was worried about this as well. Now if we can get Jesse to remember. ;D

    2. I wonder how Jesse will remember? A kiss, haha....kidding...maybe... ;)

    3. Oh, keep hoping. ;D LOL!! I don't know. Maybe the spell is starting to wear off on him, and it will all come back slowly.
