Magic Slays Discussion

Hey all! Melissa and I decided to do Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews in one week instead of splitting it up. At this point, we have caught up to the series. If you want to discuss this one or past books. Feel free.

Let's get started!!!

Melissa's
- How did Hugh know what Kate had been up to? And that those made those flowers?

- Who was talking to Kate in her weak, confused moment?

- What do you think will come from Julie now?

- How about Rowena showing up to "help" Kate? What do you think will come of her, especially wit being of The People?

Robyn's
- Now that we know that Hugh is watching. When do you think they'll meet again? You know they'll have a showdown before Roland. Or maybe that's me thinking it.

- Now that Daniel is gone. What will Jennifer become? Angrier? Maybe she'll blame Kate again. Should Kate watch out for her?

- I believe Curran loves Kate but do you think he had plans for her at the beginning with being Roland's daughter?

- What questions do we still have that have yet to be answered?

  1. Where do I start? Haha.

I really don't think Kate should trust Jennifer. First her sister, now Daniel? She is going one angry shapeshifter.

    1. LOL! I thought the same thing. That girl is NOT going to handle lossing Daniel very well, and with being pregnant and already worrying about going Loup. Well, she is one to watch. She is either going to HAAATE Kate, or Kate is going to become her rock through all she's going to go through.

    2. I wonder if it will be resolved in the next book or spread out.

    3. It might be resolved in one book, or it could be a building grudge. lol. We'll have to wait and see. :D

    4. She better watch her back. If she hurts Kate, Curran won't be too happy.

  2. I was wondering about who was talking to Kate when she was weak at the end. Was just her inner thoughts or was someone communicating to her? Who and how?

    1. I wondered if it was her dad. But then with Hugh's flowers, I wondered if it was him that was talking to her. It was someone instructing her what to do, and I would think her dad would know exactly what to do. But Hugh has been through it so maybe he knows what she should do too. For a fleeting moment I thought maybe Curran, but he wouldn't know what to tell her to do with the blood.

I think maybe her daddy knows she is around now. :)

    2. He has to know she's around. With Hugh and her now with the shape-shifters? I'm sure word has gotten around.

I'm trying to think of other characters who would know about Kate. Maybe someone in the Order who would report back to her dad.

    3. Or... maybe the witches will use that signed paper of acknowledgement to heritage against Kate to save themselves. Turn her over to her dad? Maybe? Who knows what their plan is.

  3. *sigh* Sorry!! This weekend is turning out to be a crazy one. I've not been home much to get on to even answer to comments on my blog since Tuesday! I'll chat a few then it's off to running all day today too.

  4. I do think we will see Hugh in the next book, much more. I wonder what he was doing in South America in this book. What was he searching for? Could it have a connection to Kate? I think it was mentioned she was there at some point in her travels with her dad.

I'm afraid he went to get something to use against Kate. And after the note with those flowers... yes, we'll see him again very soon.

He is watching her, but for how long has he known of her? Those flowers were created in the book before she saw him at the arena.

Oh! Wait, could that alligator girl have been following her that many years!?! Wow! She wasn't as hidden as she thought she was.

    1. See there is where I wonder. If Hugh knew about Kate all this time. Did Roland know where to find her? Did Hugh never say anything to him? Does Hugh have his own plan for Kate that her dad doesn't know about? All these questions about Hugh!!!! Haha.

If he is finding something that is her weakness. Is it for his own use or Roland's?

    2. Sounds like Hugh is becoming a big mystery question for us now! LOL! He is a wonder now, especially with his note at the end of this book.

I wonder the same about what he might have gone to get. And here's another question, if it is a weakness for Kate, could it be a weakness for Roland too?

      Delete
    3. If it is a weakness for Roland and Roland knows it, he must trust Hugh. Unless Hugh is keeping it a secret.

  5. I think Curran truly loves Kate, and did not have intentions with her "powers" before hand. He didn't know about her heritage until after they meet and he fell for the "alpha" in her. lol.

And he always wants to protect her, take her away from it all. He doesn't want her to use her powers. And he doesn't put her out there at the head of anything to blow away stuff. He prefers her safe. Although, could that be protection for love, or a play to get her to do what needs done? I think it's for love.

    1. I think Curran needs to be careful though. With that witch putting thoughts into Kate's head about if she should trust Curran? Makes me worried if we should trust the witch.

    2. I will say I really don't trust that witch either. I was so afraid she was twisting things to help her with Kates family. And yes, I think she would imply that Curran was not in with the right intentions.

I'm curious about Aunt B as well. She sounds like one to play things to her favor too.

    3. As of right now I want to say we should trust Aunt B, but you never know.

  6. Wow! What about Julie!?! Truth be told, I wasn't expecting her to get injured this soon. I was a little surprised, but liked how it was something else to add to the mix. Great play there!

I loved the fight between Julie and Ascanio as well! Julie has become a strong girl, and thanks to Kate for teaching her.

But now she is going to be more like Kate, so what all do you think we will see from her in the way of powers?

She can fight off the Lyc-V virus now, thank goodness with all that could go wrong there and her inability to change. Will she be able to control vampires? Could that be a possibility in time?

And on my! Kate didn't tell her about the command word!! I hope Kate can think before she speaks to phrase the words properly. You know at some point she is going to slip up, or Julie will over hear about it. Something is going to go wrong there.

    1. I have a feeling we'll see Julie grow into something of power. Of what? Not sure.

Definitely Kate will slip up with the command word. I think in the end though, the two will be okay. Julie will be upset of course at first but something will resolve to where Julie is okay with it. Maybe. At least I'm hoping. I would hate to see Julie get angry and get revenge on Kate or something. Who knows what type of power Julie will have.

If that did happen where Julie wanted to harm Kate, Curran would not be very happy. Would he actually kill Julie if she harmed Kate. You know Kate always comes first.

    2. Oh I would hate to see Julie turn on Kate. She really looks up to Kate. But it could very well happen. Part of me wants Kate to tell Julie what she did, so she is open with her, and Julie knows whats going on. But I understand why not to tell Julie, so she isn't always wondering if Kate is dictating her to do things.

I don't think Kate would let Curran harm Julie. She would never go for that. Julie means to much to her. I think she would leave before that.

    3. Do you think if Julie got so bad, she could play the bad guy? That would be a suspenseful book.

  7. Rowena... now that is one I REALLY don't trust. I understand why she is there, and respect that. But I don't think Kate can tell her about being able to control the undead and expect her to not share that, even after the oath is done. How is Kate going to get trained in that area without showing or telling what she can do? It's almost like Kate will need someone else that is able to control with magic that way and sit in with them to learn what needs to be done. And who's to say Rowena doesn't hold back information?

This could go many ways here. I wonder now if Julie could be trained then tell Kate? Now that she has Kates blood, we don't know what all she will be able to do.

    1. With Rowena, I could see her being bad. I don't trust her either. Something is going to go wrong and it won't be pretty.

    2. Ha! Yes! lol. I'm curious to see how Kate learns from her with keeping her secret as well.

  8. Oh it was interesting to learn about Kate's family connection to the Romanian witches. That is neat! What do you think they want from her signing that paper of acknowledgement? Hmmm..

But neat to learn more about her mom. I felt bad for Kate about the turn in her thoughts about her dad, the one that raised her. That is a shame. I kept wondering if the witch was phrasing and giving pieces to get Kate to turn to her sympathy. To want to help the witches.

    1. For some reason, I don't trust the witches. I feel like they planted those thoughts in her head. Maybe her dad wasn't the man she thought he was but for some reason I don't trust them at all. I worry about what they'll try to do to Kate.

    2. You know I keep thinking there very well could be truth to the sayings of Kates dad, but there had to be other feelings and things said that where not mentioned (on purpose) to get Kate thinking. I can see her mom influencing her dad's thinking, but I can't see he didn't feel for her too. Maybe he didn't want to admit that because if something happened to her, it wouldn't hurt as much.

      I agree, I don't trust them either.

    3. I hope we can learn more about her parents.

  9. I love the visit with Saiman! LOL! I feel bad for him with Curran. He's really made an enemy there. :D But it was a great scene to see his true form again.

I thought it was funny the way Kate showed Curran the video and talked about it.

    1. I loved that scene when they watched it.

Poor Saiman, I wasn't sure about him in the last book but I did feel bad for him.

    2. LOL! I loved seeing Saiman again, and he is really growing on me. lol. I need to read the short story in an anthology with him in it.

  10. Oh!! Andrea slapping Aunt B!!! HA HA HA! That was awesome! Andrea has really come a long way, and now working with Kate. That is cool! I had a feeling that would come to pass some how.

Do you think Andrea with get back together with Rapheal? I kind of hope so. He is funny.

    1. I'm not sure about Raphael. Maybe when we read Andrea's book, I'll make my decision, haha. I like him but at the same time when he made her choose? I was like, "no he didn't."

    2. ha ha. Yeah, but you have to keep in mind, to him only the Pack is what he knows and loves. So his thinking is a little one sided. And on the flip side, Andrea's is too, with the abuse she took as a child with her father and all.

    3. I was kinda surprised he wasn't really in this book. I figured he would be. Maybe it was just because I kept waiting for the reunion between Andrea and him.
