Hi all!! Hope everyone had a good weekend. Let's get this week started with some great books. What are you reading? Join us at The Book Journey's website, for the weekly It's Monday! What Are You Reading? Click here for the link.
I'm getting closer to the end of The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon. I really
feel like I've been reading this one forever. I love the series but I just can't get into this one as much.Goodreads Summary: The year is 1771, and war is coming. Jamie Fraser’s wife tells him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy—a time-traveler’s certain knowledge.
Born in the year of Our Lord 1918, Claire Randall served England as a nurse on the battlefields of World War II, and in the aftermath of peace found fresh conflicts when she walked through a cleftstone on the Scottish Highlands and found herself an outlander, an English lady in a place where no lady should be, in a time—1743—when the only English in Scotland were the officers and men of King George’s army.
Now wife, mother, and surgeon, Claire is still an outlander, out of place, and out of time, but now, by choice, linked by love to her only anchor—Jamie Fraser. Her unique view of the future has brought him both danger and deliverance in the past; her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through the perilous years ahead — or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes....
Next up, is The Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Love this series. Will be kinda sad when I finish that last page.It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plains--except Katniss.
The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay--no matter what the personal cost.
I've been in the mood for a classic. So why not dig out my favorite author Jane Austen and her book Catherine and Other Writing.Goodreads Summary: This new collection of Austen's brilliant short fiction is the first annotated edition of her short writings. The texts have been compared with the manuscripts to give a number of new readings. In addition to prose fiction and prayers, this collection contains many of her poems written to amuse and console her friends, and are unavailable in any other single volume.
For magazines, right now I'm reading the latest copy of RT Book Reviews.
I thought I'd read everything by Jane Austen and I've never even heard of Catherine. I will have to look around. Thanks for the heads-up.
ReplyDeleteWelcome. I love this one and the short stories.
DeleteEnjoy your books. My favorite read last week was Emily the Strange: Dark Times by Rob Reger. Please come see what else I'm reading.
ReplyDeleteAhhh I'm so sad that The Hunger Games is over! Even though the last two books weren't as good at the first, I still feel like I've lost a friend. It's never the same the second time around but I'm buying the whole series to re-read! Have you read Divergent? Apparently it's almost just as good (:
