Fiery Cross Book Thoughts

I am a fan of the Outlander series but if it hadn't been for Jamie and Claire? I would have never finished Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon. This book for me was the filler. It wasn't horrible but I don't know. I guess it dragged for me. When Jamie and Claire appeared I flew through the pages. I didn't want to put the book down. But soon Brianna, their daughter came back into the picture. Maybe I'm alone in this but Brianna for some reason unknown got on my nerves. I don't mind when Roger was alone but again. Have Brianna in the scene and I got annoyed.

People told me I would grow to like her but when I have two more books to read in the series. When will I start to like her?

I wish I could give a better description for this book but I really had trouble focusing. The main plot seemed to be finding Stephen Bonnet, a man who did wrong. I won't go into detail about his character because that would spoil the previous book. We'll just say he's not a nice guy.

If there is one thing I loved about the book was the research that was put into this. I can only imagine the research she did. If something wasn't accurate I would never have known.

If you have started the Outlander series still read Fiery Cross. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Wicked Business Book Trailer

Title: Wicked Business
Series: Lizzy & Diesel
Author: Janet Evanovich
Goodreads Summary:
Lizzy Tucker’s once normal life as a pastry chef in Salem, Massachusetts, turns upside down as she battles both sinister forces and an inconvenient attraction to her unnaturally talented but off-limits partner, Diesel.

When Harvard University English professor and dyed-in-the-wool romantic Gilbert Reedy is mysteriously murdered and thrown off his fourth-floor balcony, Lizzy and Diesel take up his twenty-year quest for the Luxuria Stone, an ancient relic believed by some to be infused with the power of lust. Following clues contained in a cryptic nineteenth-century book of sonnets, Lizzy and Diesel tear through Boston catacombs, government buildings, and multimillion-dollar residences. On their way they’ll leave behind a trail of robbed graves, public disturbances, and general mayhem.

Diesel’s black sheep cousin, Gerwulf Grimoire, also wants the Stone. His motives are far from pure, and what he plans on doing with the treasure, no one knows . . . but Lizzy Tucker fears she’s in his crosshairs. Never far and always watching, Grimoire has a growing, vested interest in the cupcake-baker-turned-finder-of-lost-things. As does another dangerous and dark opponent in the hunt—a devotee of lawlessness and chaos, known only as Anarchy.

Treasures will be sought, and the power of lust will be unmistakable as Lizzy and Diesel attempt to stay ahead of Anarchy, Grimoire, and his medieval minion, Hatchet, in this ancient game of twisted riddles and high-stakes hide-and-seek.

Mockingjay Book Thoughts

The latest book that I'm glad I added to my collection is Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. It's the final book in the Hunger Games Trilogy. I have to admit I was sad it ended but all good series must come to an end while we like it or not.

Unfortunately I never got around to reviewing the first book so if you would like to know more about that one, click here. I do have thoughts on Catching Fire, the second book, click here. In the meantime let's move onto Mockingjay.

This one picks up after the second book. Katniss finds herself among the rebels. They are people just like her that want to stop President Snow. Can they though? Is the President smart enough to show the power he has and kill them?

While Katniss has to worry about Snow, there is also Peeta to think about. What happened to the two in the previous book might just be enough to keep them apart forever. Can Katniss save them? Does she even want to? What about Gale? Could she be with him and not Peeta?

Will Katniss come out of this okay? Will her life change for the good or the better? Only time will tell.

If there is one thing I love about the series. It makes you think. Could we end up like that? Of course I'm sure we won't have something like the Hunger Games but could we have something similar? The one thing I love about these kind of books is that they might be fiction but this time there are no dragons, vampires, or you name it. They are real people.

Check out the series if you haven't yet.

Crimson Frost Book Cover

Title: Crimson Frost
Series: Mythos Academy
Author: Jennifer Estep

For a moment, a face flashed before my eyes — the most hideous face I’d ever seen. No matter how hard I tried to forget what had happened, I saw him everywhere I went. It was Loki — the evil god that I’d helped set free against my will.

I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we’d gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I’d have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn’t see that one coming. I’ve been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison — and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan’s dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos Academy thinks I’m guilty. If I’m going to get out of this mess alive, I’ll have to do it myself …

Previously Titled Rules of the Game

Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades—has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.

So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters—especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.

Or maybe it’s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she’s gotten in over her head. Or maybe it’s because if she fails—she’s dead.

If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she’ll even live long to collect her fee…

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Hi all!! Hope everyone had a good weekend. Let's get this week started with some great books. What are you reading? Join us at The Book Journey's website, for the weekly It's Monday! What Are You Reading? Click here for the link.

I'm getting closer to the end of The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon. I really feel like I've been reading this one forever. I love the series but I just can't get into this one as much.
Goodreads Summary: The year is 1771, and war is coming. Jamie Fraser’s wife tells him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy—a time-traveler’s certain knowledge.

Born in the year of Our Lord 1918, Claire Randall served England as a nurse on the b
attlefields of World War II, and in the aftermath of peace found fresh conflicts when she walked through a cleftstone on the Scottish Highlands and found herself an outlander, an English lady in a place where no lady should be, in a time—1743—when the only English in Scotland were the officers and men of King George’s army.

Now wife, mother, and surgeon, Claire is still an outlander, out of place, and out of time, but now, by choice, linked by love to her only anchor—Jamie Fraser. Her unique view of the future has brought him both danger and deliverance in the past; her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that ma
y light his way through the perilous years ahead — or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes....

Next up, is The Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Love this series. Will be kinda sad when I finish that last page.
Goodreads Summary: Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by desi
gn that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plains--except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on K
atniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay--no matter what the personal cost.

I've been in the mood for a classic. So why not dig out my favorite author Jane Austen and her book Catherine and Other Writing.
Goodreads Summary: This new collection of Austen's brilliant short fiction is the first annotated edition of her short writings. The texts have been compared with the manuscripts to give a number of new readings. In addition to prose fiction and prayers, this collection contains many of her poems written to amuse and console her friends, and are unavailable in any other single volume.

For magazines, right now I'm reading the latest copy of RT Book Reviews.
