Christmas might be around the corner but if you're on vacation or just looking for a couple good short stories. You might want to check out The Bite Before Christmas with stories written by Jeaniene Frost and Lynsay Sands.

The first story is titled "The Gift." This one was written by Sands. It's also part of the Argeneau series. I haven't read the series yet but I do want to read it. I was a little lost but that's because I didn't know the characters. I really think you could read this one without reading the series though. You get a feel for who the characters are even for being a short story.

Teddy might be Katricia's life mate. She just has to convince him so they can be together. Teddy on the other hand does have feelings for this younger woman but thinks it would never work out because she is too young for him. Well he's about to discover the truth. Will he like being her life mate though? Could he live forever? Read on to find out.

After reading this story I'm definitely curious to know more about the characters. By the looks of it they are maybe featured as minor characters in the series. Not sure though. I guess I'll have to read and find out.

The second story is titled "Home for the Holidays" by Frost. This one is in the Night Huntress series. Of course when I bought the book I wanted to read this one first since it stars one of my favorite couples in the paranormal world. Yup, I'm talking about Cat and Bones. As always I can't help but love these two together.

This one starts at Bones surprise birthday party. Him being a older vampire might not be the surprise though. He is about to discover something about his past that changes him or worse, destroys him.

Loved this short story. You know though, I never really have anything bad to say about this series. I always look forward to seeing what happens next with Cat and Bones. Glad to see the whole gang in this one. Although, there were a few people or should I say supernatural creatures missing. I'm sure we'll see them again though.

Christien's job is to protect the treasure of the Templars and Madelaine might just be the woman to help him out or make things a lot worse for him.

I enjoyed the love story between the two characters. I do wish though there might have been more of a plot. It was there but I felt like I missed out on something. I know it's a romance and this is one where you will get lots of romance but I guess there is still that part of me who enjoys action with their romance.

It was a nice break from my usual paranormal reads. I wouldn't mind checking to see what else the author has out there.

Waiting for Drink Deep by Chloe Neill was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Okay, maybe not, but to wait for the book tortured me. Hard Bitten provided a killer cliffhanger. When I finished the book, I didn't know what to think. I sat there in shock. How could she do that to us? Just in case you didn't read the last book, I won't go into detail. All I can say is, be prepared. You'll want to grab Drink Deep as soon as possible.

This one picked up after the events of Hard Bitten. Merit had to get over a loss that changed her life. To keep her from her memories, she had a chance to keep busy. Too bad, it was something that could destroy Chicago.

The water turned black and that was only the beginning. Merit, with the help of Jonah, from the Grey house who is also a friend to Merit, helps her try to figure out what's going on. Could it be the faeries? What about the nymphs or sirens? When they discovered who started it and why. Merit will have to come to some conclusions that might change relationships forever.

I loved this book. Honestly I didn't know if I would. With the ending of Hard Bitten, I felt betrayed in a way but I knew I had to read and find out what happened next. After Hard Bitten and up to the release of Drink Deep, Neill said to trust her and I'm glad I listened. I loved the ending to Drink Deep. It is a cliffhanger but you know what? I'm feeling okay. Of course, I can't wait for the next book in the series but I can relax now. Although I do have to wonder what will happen next. Whatever does happen, Merit has a long road ahead of her.

Tricks of the Trade Thoughts

Tricks of the Trade is the third book in the Paranormal Scene Investigations series by Laura Anne Gilman. Just like the first two, I enjoyed the book and can't wait to continue reading the series as it moves forward.

The series does remind me of a crime show that you would see on TV except this one would involve the supernatural world. We pick up from the last book with Bonnie and the gang, who get to work yet another case. Actually make that two cases. One is a murder case and the other is a break in.

While working the cases, Bonnie finds herself in trouble when she and the gang realize, The Roblin, who is an imp, starts to cause trouble for the gang. Can they stop the Roblin before it causes more trouble? What about the break in? What's up with that? Could the gang find themselves in danger when they have to deal with such things as hell hounds?

The connection between Bonnie and her boss, Venec seems to be as strong as ever. You can definitely see it growing but still, I would love to know more about it.

If there is one thing I love about this series, it's the connection the gang has with each other. Sure Bonnie and Venec have a deep connection that I'm sure drives them crazy but with the gang? I love how they get along. Something might drive them crazy about another co-worker but yet, they are always there for each other. I would love to see more of each character.

I really have nothing bad to say about this book. After reading it, I'm ready for the next one.

Dead in the Family Thoughts

I have been a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series but I have to say, Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris wasn't my favorite. Out of the ten books I've read, I guess it was bound to happen. To be honest, I'm not even sure what the true plot was for this book.

Sookie really wasn't her perky self in this one. She felt too depressed at the beginning, which I can understand with the events in the last book but it just depressed me and not in a way that I needed a tissue. She seemed to get happier but not her usual cheerful self.

She did get to spend time with her cousin's son who shared her ability. That part I enjoyed a little. I wouldn't mind see Hunter again. Claude, her fairy cousin, I would have loved to seen more of.

We also met Eric's maker who I didn't care for. I believe we were supposed to see him as a bad guy. At least I think so, that's what I was getting from the book. In the end, I had no feelings for the guy. The maker in the TV series was a lot better.

Speaking of Eric, love the vampire but I felt like Harris wrote some cheesy lines for him. There was a scene where he wanted Sookie to brush his hair. I felt like saying, "gag me."

I saw a lot of friends on goodreads felt the same way I did. There were some who did like the book. So I think some will enjoy it, some won't. I'll still look forward to the next one in the series. I have faith we'll get another Sookie book I love.

North of Need Thoughts

First off, thank you to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read this. Are you looking for a cute Christmas novel. Maybe something to get you in the mood. Maybe if you've always wanted a snowman who ended up being a snow god. If so, North of Need by Laura Kaye is for you.

Megan Snow is someone who blames herself for the loss of her husband and is spending her second Christmas alone. One day during a storm she builds a snow family. Before she knows it, a man shows up to her front door. He looks hurt so she brings him in. Before she knows it, she gets to know Owen Winters and he just might be the thing she needs in her life to move on.

Owen Winters has a chance for love. Too bad he's under a deadline. Can he show Megan love and find a way to her heart before it's too late and he disappears with the snow that is quickly melting?

I really enjoyed this one. It does take place around Christmas and it's like a Christmas miracle kind of story but I really think you could read this before Thanksgiving even starts. It's not too involved with Christmas. It just takes place at the time, you have a Christmas gift, and the days after.

I wouldn't mind a man like Owen. Maybe when the snow finally hits Ohio? Haha.

The only bad thing about this book, was I wish there had been more. I would have loved to get to know the characters more. Maybe see more of Owen's past. We hear some about his past. An ex-lover, etc. But I would have loved to hear more about him.
